ASO rank tracker for Mac · App Store and Google Play: Know where your app ranks. And whether your last change worked.

ASO Gauge searches the App Store and Google Play three times a day, for each of your keywords, in each country you choose, and keeps the rank your customers really see. Change your listing, and on day 28 it tells you whether it helped.

A looped demonstration of the ASO Gauge window. The day’s page for the App Store: the seal goes from “Measuring · 3 waiting” to “Measurement complete at 18:47 · 121 searches today · 10 checks passed · no missing day”. Six keywords rise, two fall. Apple still corrects “habbit tracker” to “habit tracker”. The 31 keywords tracked in 4 countries are counted by rank: 9 in the top 10, 9 from 11 to 50, 7 from 51 to 250, 4 not in the first 250, 2 corrected by the store. What moved in 7 days: “sleep schedule” (US) up 35, to 96th; “water tracker” (US) down 8, to 52nd; “tagesplaner” (DE) up 7, to 15th; “journal d’humeur” (FR) down 7, to 19th; “集中タイマー” (JP) up 7, to 24th; “objectifs” (FR) up 6, to 19th. To watch: Rival A is 3rd for “daily planner” (US). 2 places ahead of you. “habbit tracker” becomes “habit tracker”. FR · US: the store searches for a word other than the one typed. At least since yesterday. Experiment: subtitle US, 13 Oct. Verdict on 10 Nov. So far: up on 4, unchanged on 2, down on 2. The page then scrolls down to the grid, which fills country by country, and the pointer opens “goal tracker” (United States): 4th today, up 4 in 7 days, with its last 30 days on a chart.

Method · 3 searches a day

Every rank comes from a real search.

ASO Gauge doesn’t estimate ranks. It asks the stores the way your customers do, and writes down what they answer.

  1. Search like a customer

The App Store is searched the way the App Store app does it, in each country’s own storefront. Google Play is searched in the country and language you set. Results keep the store’s own order.

  2. Three times a day

Each keyword is searched three times a day. The day’s rank is the median of the three; the spread shows the best and the worst rank they found.

  3. Check the instrument

Every day, ASO Gauge checks that Apple answered for the right country, and that the App Store app’s order matches Apple’s web page. When a check fails, that day’s ranks are marked suspect instead of shown as plain numbers.

  4. Record, or say why not

Each keyword gets one state per country and per day: a rank, not ranked, corrected, suspect, failed or skipped, with the reason. No cell is ever left blank.

A real excerpt of the App Store grid of a habit and routine app, on 25 October 2026. The same app is 2nd for “daily routine” in the United States, 2nd for “tagesroutine” in Germany, and 215th for “rotina” in Brazil. A rank means nothing without its keyword and its country.

  • Rank

The median of the day’s searches, with the best and the worst rank they found.

  • Not ranked

Not in the results the store returned.

  • Corrected

The store searched another word. A small number is your rank in its results.

  • Suspect

A daily check failed: the number is set aside.

  • Failed

No measurement, with the reason: blocked, offline, a changed page…

  • Skipped

Not measured on purpose, with the reason.

Experiment · verdict on day 28

Did the change work? Day 28 will tell.

When your listing changes on the store, ASO Gauge notices and opens an experiment in that country. It compares each keyword’s ranks in the 7 days before the change with its ranks from day 3 after, then gives its verdict on day 28.

  • Before · 7 days
  • Settling · 3 days
  • After · from day 3
  • Days
  • Helped

The average rank gained at least one place, and the ranks before and after don’t overlap.

  • Hurt

The average rank lost at least one place, without overlap.

  • No measurable effect

The ranks before and after overlap: the move stays inside the store’s daily wobble.

  • Not enough measurements

Too few days were measured to conclude.

Why wait? A listing change takes a few days to settle in search, and ranks move a little every day on their own. Calling it early turns noise into conclusions.

Proposals · checked by code

AI proposals, checked line by line.

ASO Gauge can ask Claude, with your own Anthropic API key, to rewrite a listing from your measured ranks. Before you see a proposal, code checks it against the stores’ rules.

Blocking 6

  • Over the limit: name, subtitle and title 30 characters, keywords 100, short description 80
  • A competitor’s app name in the keyword field
  • Your brand name dropped
  • An emoji in a Google Play title
  • A ranking, price or promotion claim in a Google Play title
  • A keyword a custom product page relies on, removed

Warning 6

  • Spaces around commas, or an empty keyword
  • A plural next to its singular
  • The same word twice
  • The word “app”
  • A word the proposal targets, missing from its text
  • A measurement the AI cites that doesn’t exist

Advice 2

  • A word already in the name or subtitle
  • A word in capitals in a Google Play title

Your key stays in the macOS Keychain. ASO Gauge writes a proposal to your listing only when you ask it to, and never submits anything for review.

Data · on your Mac

Your ranks live on your Mac.

  • Measures in the background

A small agent runs the day’s searches, even when the app is closed.

  • Stored on your Mac

Every measurement is kept in a database on your Mac. Keys stay in the macOS Keychain.

  • Yours to take

Export any table as CSV, read your ranks from the command line, or ask Claude about them through the built-in MCP server.

  • Talks to the stores, not to us

ASO Gauge connects only to Apple, Google and, for proposals, Anthropic. It sends nothing to us.

Questions

Questions, answered plainly.

How is ASO Gauge different from other ASO tools?

It is built around two questions: where does your app really appear, and did your last change move it? So it searches the stores three times a day, keeps the median and the spread, records the store’s corrections, explains every gap, and gives each listing change a verdict on day 28.

Which stores and countries does it cover?

The App Store in 32 countries: the United States, Canada, Mexico and Brazil; the United Kingdom and 16 other European countries; Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India and Singapore; Australia and New Zealand; Russia and Turkey. Google Play in the countries and languages you choose.

How deep does it look?

The first 250 App Store results and the first 30 Google Play results, every time, so every day is read at the same depth. Below that, a keyword is recorded as not ranked.

Does it estimate search volume?

No. ASO Gauge doesn’t invent numbers. If you connect your Apple Ads account, it reads Apple’s own popularity score for your keywords.

Where is my data?

On your Mac, in a local database, with your keys in the macOS Keychain. ASO Gauge connects only to Apple, Google and, if you use proposals, Anthropic.

Can it change my listing on its own?

No. A proposal reaches App Store Connect or Google Play only when you apply it, and ASO Gauge never submits anything for review.

Do I need App Store Connect or Google Play keys?

Not to track ranks: any app on the stores can be tracked, yours or a competitor’s. Keys are needed only to read your live keyword field and to apply a proposal.

Which Mac do I need?

A Mac with macOS 14 Sonoma or later.

Is ASO Gauge affiliated with Apple or Google?

No. ASO Gauge is an independent tool. App Store is a trademark of Apple Inc.; Google Play is a trademark of Google LLC.

How do I get it?

ASO Gauge is in private testing. Write to hello@asogauge.com with the stores and countries you track.
